I'm going to be at Big Wow Con in San Jose!

Hey guys, just wanted to do an update on what's going on in my art world here. Just received an email, and I  was just approved to be in the Artist Alley in San Jose at the Big Wow Con at the San Jose Convention Center! The con happens on May 18-19th, and I can't be more excited!

This convention is like the little brother of WonderCon which abandoned the Bay Area to go to Los Angeles. But that's alright, because I can be here! I am going to have TONS of artwork available and taking commissions as well as promoting my webcomic, The Swaggernauts! Also there I will have my newest sketchbook and selling that as well. I may be giving away some goodies and things there as well to folks that really support me and what I am going to be doing there. I have a lot to look forward to, and am really excited to reconnect with some other artists that I met at WonderCon back in 2011. So it's gonna be a good time.

Come mid-April, I will be doing a commission list for those attending the convention that may be interested in getting a commission from me. Those commissions will be a limited number, and they will be available at the convention for pick up. I will be updating when we reach the official 30 day mark, and then counting down! I will be updating with more news and revealing things I will have at the convention. Until then guys, talk to you soon!

New Swaggernauts, & Improvements

Hey everyone, it’s time for another week of artwork and of course, THE SWAGGERNAUTS! Be sure to go over and check out the new page that is up right now! Click the link below to check it out. You will also see a nice homage to something really cool this week as well. Hope you movie buffs pick up on it.

I have been pretty inspired as of late to get my art going as well. Making money is really essential right now, and so the best way to do that is to show off more of my artwork, and do pics and get them sold.

I talked with a friend who saw my art sales site, and gave me some advice that I think I’m going to start following. Initially the work I had up there is for the collectors, and the ones able to shell out the cash to collect the artwork I draw. But I am finding that I do need to realize where we are in the economy and that original fan art is a luxury and not a necessity. But if I make it affordable, I will not have to feel like I’m making someone choose between feeding their kids or picking up my awesome Teen Titans Robin piece. So over the next few days, if you go to my site, you will notice subtle changes. I will be integrating the Facebook page with my blog site, making it easy to view my art work and easier to purchase it as well. Commission products will be available as well. So look for that really soon as well.

One thing I’m going to be making sure I do, is put up more of my sketches and artwork on a regular basis. I need to make sure I stay in you guys faces, and build up a presence! My first con will be in July, over in San Jose, and that gives me plenty of time to make sort of a name for myself, and become that professional that I know that I can become. You’re not going to see me take on lists of commissions on DA sites or any other site like that. I will just do everything through my blog here, the art store blog, or the Facebook page. I’m talkin streamlining it up!

Well with that said, I’m going to take off for now. I’m sure you guys all see my Instagram feed, so be sure to take the time to check out my pics, and follow my Instagram account. Make sure you follow @theswaggernauts as well. They need some love. They are on a strange planet after all. See you guys later!

Finishing up commissions... Part 1

So I have been taking the time to finish up some long overdue commissions that I have been busy working on. After this, I will be doing some new sales to help me get my new place hopefully within the next 6 months. All will be custom artwork and really fun. Hopefully a sort of a one of a kind type piece/product.

So far though, I have 2 pieces left to go for one client. Two original character pieces of Star Wars characters for another, and two original pieces for another client. All together I need to finish a total of 6 more commission pieces. I undercharged a lot for these in the hopes to get a lot of business, but ended up using a lot of it for shipping. Took a HUGE loss on these. Gonna fix that next time I take commissions!

So here are the two pieces that I did today. 6 more to go!!!

Harleyquin - Warmup Sketch 1

This is a warmup sketch that I did to start out my day. This was done on high quality 8.5 x 11 cardstock paper, with Copic Liners, and colored with Copic Markers. Harley has always been a fun character for me to draw. This is for sale in my new Big Cartel shop for only $20! Go grab it now! I'm going to be selling all my warm up sketches there from now on, so watch the blog here, or my twitter to see when I put a new one up!

Saw Dark Knight rises last night, and it was AH-MAZIIIING!!! Will definitely go see it at least one more time. And to me hands down the best Batman film Nolan has made. Very well done, and very well executed. Loved it, loved it, LOVED IT!!! More on this later! In the meantime, let me know what you guys think of my drawing.

2012 Sketchbook - Understanding Women Vol.1

This is the cover to a new full color sketchbook that I will be coming out with in the later part of the year! Still putting this together, so the page count is still up in the air. This will showcase all of my sketches and drawings, including fan art of all female characters over the years spanning 2010 to 2012.

I will be self publishing the book, and doing a limited number release of books under the Obsidian Studios banner. This will also be revealed in the next few months as well. Pre-Orders for the book will be available once everything is set and ready to go to print. So keep watching and looking for details!

Power Girl in Watercolor

Hey guys, I just wanted to share something that I finished up tonight. For the first time, I have finished and completed a watercolor painting piece. I am very proud of it. I decided to go with a very simple style, that being my cartoon style for this one, because I wasn't confident enough to do anything that would be too crazy. I promised myself that I would expand in my art, and one of the mediums that I had been busting in my head back and forth was the medium of watercolor.

Granted, I don't have the space, and that was one of my excuses for a really long time. But today I went to the art store, bought some Pentel Watercolors, and got out my watercolor paper and put it to use. I just decided to jump in instead of examining and preparing like I normally do. And I think that this piece ended up looking really good! Let me know what you guys think of it will you!?

This is up for sale in my Blogspot art store. You can click the link at the top of the page!

Talk to you soon!

eBay Art Auction for the Week of 2/6

Humbled this week I must say. I did some new pieces, and was a bit on a Star Wars vibe as well and managed to sprinkle in a Black Cat as well. The prices on the auctions were adjusted. A lot of the same items from last week are up again this week on eBay due to an extremely unsuccessful week of selling. The new catalog is almost finished and will be mailed out by the end of the day today. Again the same items will be up with these three items as well. At the end of the month, the catalog will have some of the new pieces in my primary art store, which you can go to the link at the top of the page. Hope you folks enjoy, and I will talk with you all soon!

eBay Auctions for the week of 1/16

So this week I got 3 auctions up right now on eBay for sale. We've got a burlesque pinup, Black Canary, and old school Firestar. All of these pieces are original art pieces done by myself on 8.5 x 11 high end cardstock paper. The starting bids for each auction are really low. All the pencil, ink and greytone auctions this year are going to have starting bids of $.99, and the full color auctions are always going to be $5. I want to make my artwork affordable for those that can't just drop $100-300 on my bigger pieces. All the money made off this artwork will be going toward the production of The Seven comic and Obsidian Studios. So if you can, please go and bid and support my cause! You can follow this link here ------> eBay Auctions for 1/16/12 or you can go to the eBay link at the top of the page here!

Thanks folks, I'll talk to you later!

Power Girl Colors

I have been on a mission this year to up my digital coloring game. I think i have been doing alright thus far. I did a piece just last week 100% digitally, and now I decided to do some colors over some work of one of my favorite comic artists, Marcio Takara. He did the lines on this Power Girl, and I just had to do it. I tried some new tricks, and attempted to figure out a new and quick way to color my digital images. I am getting the hang of it, but I know that it will take some time. Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

Also in the next month or so, I will be doing commissions, and having special prices for this year, as well as doing digital commissions. This is something I have never done before. So keep on the lookout! Enjoy guys!

Talk to you later..

The Question: Renee Montoya

Just felt inspired to do this today. I had never drawn The Question before today, and I wanted to do something so that I could practice on my digital skills in regard to inking and drawing and so forth. This is the product of that practice. This took about say, 2 hours to do, all 100% Photoshop.

This is something that I think would look good as a shirt or something like that. But for right now, it's gonna be a print. I'm going to slap some colors on this soon, but not right now. I will have it done in time for the Con season though. I'm gonna do both a Black and White, and Color Print for these. I'm hoping that with the low price I'm putting on these bad boys that they will go fast.

I'm allowing folks to color the picture here, so if you are an aspiring colorist looking to get some practice, then don't hesitate to drop me an email and a request. I do take commissions by the way. Be sure to visit IDArtSales when you get the time to get some cool traditional artwork! Well I'm off to bed folks. See you all later!

The Seven Graphic Novel Indie Go-Go Campaign

Hey guys, I'm back to let you know what's going on right now! I have been working on my graphic novel The Seven for over a year now, and after getting started with the lineart, and reading the script more, I decided that I didn't like it, and that I wanted to start over in the story. This time around I brought on another writer to help work with my current writer on the story Ricky Burnett to get this thing going. I am going to revamp the story to be a more realistic and believable story.

The writer working on the story now is here on DA, and is also an aspiring digital colorist named Brandon Smith. He even has a page on DA. Check him out here ----> http://brandon-smith.deviantart.com

Last night, I started a crowdfunding campaign over on Indie Go-Go to bring the first part of this graphic novel to life. CAINE is the first story in this book, and it will be made into a stand alone comic. This is being done for the purpose of promotion and to get the story into your hands to whet the appetite for the graphic novel. I plan on running a bigger campaign in the future on Kickstarter, but need help right now raising funds for a colorist to do the book for us. I have a goal of $2000 right now, and I really really need your help in two ways; either by spreading the word about my book, or by actually donating and helping us get this book rolling. There are rewards and perks for donating, and all that do will receive them. I thank you guys so much in advance, and please please please go spread the word and help in any way you can!

Surfer of the Cosmos

This is the newest Silver Surfer piece that I did today. I am very proud of it, and is a far better improvement from the last Surfer piece I did earlier this year. This one here took me a good 3 hours to do, and I put a lot into this pic. I am selling it on my IDWalker Art Sales page, and hope that it sells soon. My goal is to get one of my pieces on that site to sell. I am betting on Fate and Surfer here to be some of the first to go. We shall see! Let me know what you guys think in the meantime.
